To MEMA Boosters, Families and Friends:

Hey folks. There are a couple of important dates I need to remind everyone about.

Our Boston Butt cooking will take place on October 14th and they will be distributed Thursday, October 15th at the school. I will need several to help cook beginning at about 3:00 P.M. on the 14th and to distribute beginning at 8:00 A.M. on the 15th. We will have to cook through the night Wednesday in order to have them ready to distribute on Thursday, so I will need a few people for every shift. Please give me a call if you can help. The tickets will be ready very soon. The cost per butt will remain $25 and each will average between 6-8 pounds.  If you have never had one, you need to try one for sure. I can say from personal experience they are great.

Finally, I want to reiterate a few things that some may not be aware of regarding our Booster Club. First of all, our budget is supported by two things: the money we raise from the various fund-raising projects we do like those mentioned above and others like concessions, draw down/golf tournament and deer hunt. This is primarily possible due to the donated time of our family members, administration and coaches. One-hundred percent of these funds go to benefit the athletic programs of the school, whether it is the money collected for the gate or concessions or otherwise. Costs keep going up, but we are somewhat limited as to how much we can pass those costs along. So it makes every nickel we generate from these fund raisers that much more important. Last, but certainly not least, as I mentioned earlier it is the valuable time that is donated that makes it all work. We couldn’t generate a dime without the generosity of our MEMA families and I want to give my sincere thanks to all of you. I know how difficult it is to juggle all of the things we all have going on now.

I have heard that some may feel from time to time that only their checks for membership are important and nobody will allow them to volunteer to help. Both are equally important. And let me assure you, if anyone wants to donate their time to help with the activities of the Booster Club, this is an open invitation to participate. If you want to volunteer, then I promise we’ll find an area for you to help. Please call me at (334)328-0715 to get this handled. This Club is not about individuals. It’s about doing whatever we can to help our children have the best we can provide. I want to encourage everyone to get involved. We need many rather than just a few. After all, in some form or fashion all the money/effort is going to benefit each of our children.

Finally, I want to encourage everyone to attend our Booster Club meetings. The dates will be listed shortly on Edline and our website. A parent asked me about something the other night regarding a Booster Club issue and was really upset that the issue had not been addressed before. I then asked him if he had ever been to a Booster Club meeting and he said no. Folks, on average, we have 4-5 members attend these meetings! EVERYONE who is a member of the Booster Club has a right to attend the monthly meetings and a right to vote on the issues brought up in the meetings. We need all that can to participate.

If you have any questions about the information contained in this memo, please call me at (334)328-0715 and I will be glad to discuss them with you.

Thanks for your support and God bless.

Sincerely,

Rodger Selph, Macon East-Montgomery Athletic Booster Club - President
