Change 4 Change Project
The Macon East SGA has started a new philanthropic project this year called Change 4 Change. Each Friday, buckets are distributed giving all students the opportunity to contribute. The SGA and sponsor, Marcie Dykes, welcome student, teacher, and parent suggestions for worthwhile projects and causes. This service project will focus on putting others first. It will also develop an awareness of the impact and meaning of how important it is to give, educate students of the many organizations in the River Region area that need our help, and bring the student body together to make a small difference in the world.
Recently, the SGA raised $300 in the campaign for Trevor Johnson and his family. Trevor is a student at Lowndes Academy and was seriously injured in an automobile accident. He is currently home and doing well. This month the SGA is raising money to help the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Mr. Ted Johnson, husband of 4th grade teacher Marjory Johnson. He is the late grandfather of MEA students Susie, Dawn, Hannah, and Lane Johnson. So if you have any spare change and would like to help the SGA raise money, please send it to the school on Fridays. Donations will also be taken at home athletic events.
Get Involved in SGA
The Student Government Association at Macon East Academy is made up of students from 7th – 12th grades who volunteer their time and efforts to serve through this governing body of the upper school. Mrs. Marcie Dykes serves as the advisor for SGA. Each year SGA sponsors the Homecoming events, including themed school dress-up days and the Homecoming dance. The SGA also partners with Life South Blood Bank to host an annual on campus blood drive in the spring. The SGA participates in various other Community Service projects throughout the school year. To help fund the work of the SGA, its members sell Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuits on campus every Friday morning.
Sign up for membership in the SGA will begin in August. Please see Mrs. Marcie in the upper school office to become a part of this organization.
