Wendy’s Heisman Honorees Selected

Two Macon East Academy seniors were selected as School Winners for the Wendy’s High School Heisman.  Seth Meadow and Alex Wyrosdick were recognized by this prestigious program for their hard work and dedication in the classroom, on the field, and in the community.  These students are known by their teachers and coaches for their commitment to excellence.  Since 1994, Wendy’s and the Heisman Trophy have honored more than 600,000 of the nation’s most esteemed students.

All-State Softball & Baseball

Five Lady Knights softball players were named to the AISA All-State 1st team (Paxton Searle, Jesi Garrett, Kaylee Pullin, Sommer Sears, and Madisyn Kennedy).  Dawn Johnson received all-state honorable mention.  Paxton Searle was honored as the AISA Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year and was named to the Super All-State team as one of the top 10 high school players in the state.  Paxton will attend Troy on an academic scholarship in the fall and has plans to walk on the school’s softball team.  Playing primarily pitcher, Searle helped lead Macon East to a fifth straight AISA championship. She was 42-6 with a 2.24 ERA, including 17 shutouts this season, plus hit .489 with 15 home runs and 78 RBIs.  Paxton Searle is just the fourth AISA player in history to make the softball Super All-State list.

Chapman Dean Signs with LBW

Macon East senior, Chapman Dean has committed to play baseball at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia next season.  A three year starter for the Knights’ program, Chapman earned 18 career wins on the mound and 3 saves.  He finished his senior season with a 1.96 ERA and had 72 strikeouts.  Throwing a perfect game in the first round of the state playoffs, Dean advanced his team to round two.  At the plate, Chapman led the team with a batting average of .420 and 5 homeruns, finishing his career at MEA with 11 home runs.  As a junior, he was a second team All-State selection and first team All-Metro.  Chapman Dean has been a tremendous asset to Coach Bob Pickett’s program at Macon East and has a bright future at the collegiate level.

Senior Athletes Recognized

As the baseball and softball seasons come to an end, the senior athletes and their parents were recognized for their hard work and commitment to MEA athletics.  Seniors Chapman Dean, Austin Reese, and Ty Thomas led the baseball team to the second round of the playoffs and an overall 23-13 season record.  The team was ranked in the top ten all season and finished 2nd in area play.  Lady Knights seniors, Paxton Searle and Jesi Garrett, are once again leading their team to the state tournament.  Coming off a tough loss for the Region title, the team remains ranked number one and has their eye on a 5th consecutive state championship.  With a record of 48-9 the Lady Knights play Clarke Prep at 12:00 p.m. Friday, May 6 at Lagoon Park.  Congratulations seniors on your outstanding high school athletic career accomplishments.
