Moms with Shields – Knights in the Lord’s Army

Moms with Shields is a group of moms who meet for a monthly prayer walk at Macon East Academy.  Together they provide spiritual support and bless the students, teachers, staff and campus at Macon East Academy. They placed Prayer Boxes in the lower and upper school halls for the students and staff to place their anonymous pray requests.  This is such a blessing and will bring transformation, togetherness and love to the MEA family.

MACON EAST ACADEMY DONATES CANNED FOOD AT 12’S DAY OF GIVING

The Student Government Association at Macon East partnered with Dixie Electric Cooperative for their annual canned food drive during WSFA’s 12 days of giving.  Will Desmarais, President of the SGA, said this year they wanted to do something special with everything going on and thought this was the best way to help our community.  Macon East collected 1,870 canned goods and hopes this will help make the holidays a little brighter for less fortunate families.  They held a competition for the class that collected the most cans; the winner of the lower school was the 2nd grade, and the upper school winner was the 12th grade. All donations benefit the Montgomery Area Food Bank (MAFB), which provides assistance in 35 Alabama counties in the fight against hunger.

MACON EAST ACE SIGNS WITH HUNTINGDON

Macon East senior, Colby Cox, signed to play baseball with Huntingdon College.  Colby was one of the Knights’ top hitters and pitchers the past two seasons.  He was on the Alabama Coach’s Association – Alabama Top 100 Player’s List last year and has been focused on playing this upcoming season.  Macon East coach Bob Pickett said that Colby is a leader on the team, has been a starter for two years, and was the only 10th grader to start in 2019. He batted .387 as a sophomore and even last year, in a shortened season, he batted over .300.  Colby has been a huge asset to Coach Bob Pickett’s program at Macon East and has a bright future at the collegiate level.

MACON EAST SENIOR SOFTBALL STANDOUT SIGNS

Macon East Academy senior, Taylor McKinney signed to play softball next year with the Troy University Trojans in Troy, Alabama.  Taylor has played varsity softball at Macon East Academy for four years. She also plays for the Birmingham Thunderbolts travel ball club.   Taylor helped lead the Lady Knights to a 2018 3A State Championship and was selected as the state tournament MVP.  Taylor was the first to blast four home runs in the state tournament and holds the school’s single-season home run record with 16.  Taylor was also named 2018 AISA Player of the Year and All-State Player of the Year. She has a career batting average over .500 and batted .605 this past season for the Knights!

Taylor’s goal is to end her senior season as a state champion and be undefeated. Taylor’s primary reason for choosing the Trojans is that she absolutely loves the school and the coaches there are amazing.  Words of wisdom from Taylor: “The end is never the end because Effort Never Dies”.

Coach Lott and Coach Moon are excited for Taylor and everything she has accomplished. Taylor’s ability on the softball field is matched with her drive to work hard and get better every day. The passion she has for the game is unparalleled. Congrats Taylor!

MACON EAST STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN ELECTION 2020

Ms. Hammonds history classes worked on 2020 election prediction maps! They also participated in both Presidential debates as well as the Vice-Presidential debate by “live tweeting” and answering questions with lots of opinions on all.

Second graders learned about the election process as they worked through a booklet entitled “Election 2020: Choosing America’s President”. This booklet was created by Scholastic. The students learned about the requirements to be a presidential candidate, the political parties, campaigning, the voting process, etc. On Election Day, students cast their votes for president.

Mrs. Smith’s first graders also learned about the election process. They read Duck for President by Doreen Cronin and placed their votes for Duck or Farmer Brown. They learned that voters must be thoughtful and patient. In the end, Duck was elected President by the first-grade class.

Knight Rider

Macon East Academy revived an old tradition this 2020 football season.  The Knight mascot came to life and charged the field in a dynamic pregame show. The crowd rose to their feet with excitement as the armored Knight brought magic to the field. The fight song played, and the Macon East flag waved while all were reminded of how truly special it is to be a part of the Knight family. The Knight mascot personifies pride, loyalty, unity, and kinship. It is also a visual representation of a sense of belonging. Students, teachers, and parents from all walks of life are UNITED by love and dedication to their school.
