Drew Baker, Macon East Class of 2018, was drafted in the 11th round of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.
Congratulations to ๐๐ซ๐๐ฐ ๐๐๐ค๐๐ซ, Macon East alumnus, on being drafted the 325th pick in the 11th round of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft by the Philadelphia Phillies! Drewโs strength is his ability to pitch a fastball that clocks in around 98 mph! Drew attended college at Chipola after graduating from Macon East Academy, then Auburn University for aย year and then back to Chipola this past year.ย Drew struck out 92 batters this season in 57โ innings for Chipola College.ย He worked as both a starter and reliever for the Indians.
At Macon East Academy, Drew was their star catcher since ninth grade.ย He was a part of their first state championship in thirteen years in 2017.ย He worked behind the plate and on the mound his senior year and helped lead the Knights to a back to back State Championship in 2018.ย Drew earned many accolades his senior year at Macon East Academy. He was also chosen for the AISA All Tournament Team โ Most Valuable Player, AISA All-Star game, named to the Alabama Sports Writer Associationโs AISA All State 2nd team, and Montgomery Advertiserโs AISA All Metro Player of the Year. ย Drew is a very down-to-earth athlete and gives a lot of credit to his former coaches.ย Coach Bob Pickett, Macon East Academy head baseball coach, says this about Drew: โDrew is a special person and player. Iโm lucky to coach a player with his caliber of athleticism. ย He is a hard worker but a better person. He is humble and the same guy he has always been. I wish him all the best.
