Pettway Signs With Spring Hill College

Macon East Academy senior, Jaylan (Jayman) Pettway signed his letter of intent to continue a basketball career at Spring Hill College in Mobile. As point guard for Macon East, Pettway was named to the All-State Tournament team, the AISA All-Star team, and honored as the Knights’ offensive player of the year in 2019.  He led his team to the 3A Area championship and AISA State Tournament at the Montgomery Multiplex, where they fell to Tuscaloosa Academy in the Final Four game. In the AISA All-Star game, Jaylan finished with 14 points, 7 assists, and 4 steals earning himself the title of East team MVP. Jaylan signed with coaches Lincoln Glass (Macon East Academy) and Rod Henry (Millbrook Elite AAU Basketball) looking on and sharing a few words about Jaylan’s outstanding ability and effort on the court. Macon East Admissions: What to Know About Applying

This school year is nearly over, but the 2020-2021 semesters are just over the horizon! That means you and your student could be only few months away from joining the marvelous Macon East family. If you’re ready to apply, here’s all you need to know about Macon East admissions.

Requesting an Enrollment Pack

The first step to applying to Macon East Academy starts with requesting an enrollment packet through the mail. You and your student can fill it out together, along with the application, and send it back. You can also find the Macon East admissions application here.

Materials You’ll Need

As you apply for Macon East Academy, you should procure the following supplies, resources, and recommendations:

  • The Macon East enrollment packet;
  • An enrollment fee payment;
  • A filled-out admission form;
  • Evaluations from past teachers and administrators;
  • Positive teacher recommendations;
  • Student records, including testing scores, attendance, report cards, and discipline statements (we have a form for that right here); and
  • Past transcripts.

Touring the School

Part of the Macon East admissions process involves touring the school, so you and your student can experience the environment we cultivate first-hand. Right now, this stage may be postponed or replaced with a different method like kll3 video chat interviews, as we’re currently observing social distancing. Thanks for your patience!

New Family Referral Forms

Are you friends with a Macon East Academy student or alumnus? Or do you already have a student enrolled and want to recommend us to a family? The Macon East family referral form can help make the process easier—so download it here!

Wait-listing

Classroom sizes limit the amount of applicants we can accept! If your student qualifies but the classroom spots have already been filled, we will keep your student on a waitlist, notifying you if or when a spot opens. The earlier you apply, the higher up your spot will be.

GPA Requirements

Students with a 2.5 GPA or higher automatically meet the GPA requirements. If a student has a 2.0-2.49 GPA, he or she may still be accepted, though we will make that choice on a conditional basis.

Personal Interviews

If your student is interested in applying, we recommend letting us conduct a personal interview with him or her! Transcripts and papers can make it hard to convey a sense of personality. An interview, though, can help your student explain why he or she will thrive at Macon East Academy. It will also help him or her decide if he or she wants to join the Macon East Knights!

Equal Opportunities and Non-Discriminatory Policy

We follow a non-discriminatory policy. Students of all races, nationalities, and ethnic origins are welcome at Macon East! All applicants will have equal opportunities to apply.

Enrolling Advantages for Siblings and Faculty Members’ Children

Does your student already have a sibling who attends or used to attend Macon East Academy? We may give applicants related to alumni preference in the admissions process. Additionally, we may give preference to the children of staff and faculty members.

Summary

There’s one more thing to know about the Macon East admissions: we can’t wait to welcome you! The 2020-2021 school year will arrive in just a few months, so don’t forget to apply as soon as possible. You can visit our website here or call us at (334) 277-6566 to learn more about the Macon East Knights. Additionally, you can fill out our contact form here. First Grade Fun

In February, the first grade visited Baptist Medical Center’s Let’s Pretend Hospital. This is an annual event with the goal of introducing children to a hospital environment in a friendly, educational way. As our first grade students moved through the different simulation rooms, they learned more about the process of being admitted into the hospital, different healthcare professions, and their own health. We followed our volunteer “family” (mom, dad, and patient) through patient intake, the emergency room, the operating room, the blood lab, the radiology department, the patient room, the nursery, and more. We also were able to look inside of an ambulance to conclude the trip!

First grade sent out Flat Stanleys to places across the country and around the world. Our Flat Stanleys are traveling to places like Minnesota, New Mexico, Texas, New York, Indiana, England, and Germany! We have been patiently waiting for our Flat Stanleys to return so that we can learn more about different places around the world through Stanley’s adventures.

Junior Class Visits USS Alabama

Coach Davenport’s 11th grade History classes enjoyed a fun-filled day at Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile. The USS Alabama began her World War II adventures in the North Atlantic in 1943, then later that year, went to the South Pacific seas. She ended up in Mobile, Alabama as a National Historic Landmark and memorial to millions. Home to a crew of 2,500 courageous Americans, this 45,000 ton war machine’s WWII adventure culminated with BB-60 leading the American Fleet into Tokyo Bay on September 5, 1945. Since 1965, the battleship has been open to the public as the anchor attraction of Veterans Memorial Park.

Fun Run

This year’s Boosterthon Fun Run event raised $10,500 for the Macon East PTO. Boosterthon’s Wild West S.T.E.A.M. theme for 2020 was fun and educational teaching honesty, gratitude, generosity, kindness, and humility. The PTO plans to use the funds raised to add playground sun shades to the existing lower school play area. We thank everyone who made a pledge supporting our students, our corporate sponsors, and the PTO for all they do for the school. The PTO is proud to continue to partner with Boosterthon each year in this unique fundraising event that allows the students to take ownership of making positive improvements to their school while learning great character lessons in the week-long program.
