8th Graders Discover Ancient Egypt

The eighth-grade class at Macon East, led by Erica Hammonds, were very creative with their projects on Ancient Egyptian Civilization. They were tasked to create a scrapbook covering topics including the pyramids, papyrus, mummies, pharaohs, inventions, and gods and goddesses. The students really enjoyed learning about the rulers, artifacts, and customs associated with ancient Egypt.

SENIOR BUDDIES

The Senior Buddy program unites the Senior class with smallest Knights in preschool.  Caitlin Bruce, Senior Buddy Coordinator says, “the Senior Buddy tradition is one of my favorite things to organize every year! Our Pre-school students look up to the “big kids”. We meet throughout the year and do crafts, exchange goodies, and even play together! Believe it or not, the Seniors enjoy it just as much as the little buddies!”  The senior buddy program personifies the family atmosphere found at Macon East Academy.   The preschool buddies enjoy cheering for their senior buddies at Macon East sporting events, high fiving them on the sidewalks, and bonding with the older students.

The seniors look forward to participating and mentoring to the younger students.  We asked a few seniors what they looked forward to when meeting their buddy:

“I love meeting new friends, especially kids younger than me, I can be a role model/inspiration to them.” Tyler  Daniels

“I will love hanging out with my buddy because I can be a mentor to Easton.” Khamani Driver

“I really enjoy meeting new friends! Juneau seems like a cool person. This opportunity is a fantastic way to strengthen the alliance between the class of 2022 and the class of 2035.” Bryant Rascoll

Macon East Academy Hosts Back to School Bash & Silent Auction

Macon East Academy recently held its 3rd Annual Back to School Bash & Silent Auction. The Macon East PTO really outdid themselves this year.  There were bounce houses, a dunk tank, cake walk, face painting, balloons, midway games and prizes along with a touch-a-truck area.  Macon East families enjoyed the BBQ food truck sno-cones, popcorn and cotton candy as well.  A silent auction was also featured that showcased a lot of fantastic donations.  This was a great event that welcomed new students and brought everyone together for a fun afternoon.  A great big thank you to all the sponsors, donors and volunteers who helped make the event such a success.

AISA CLASS AA CHAIRMAN’S AWARD AND BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL RECIPIENT

The Alabama Independent School Association is pleased to announce that Macon East Academy is the recipient of the AISA Class AA CHAIRMAN’S AWARD designation for the 2020-2021 school year. The Chairman’s Award was established by the AISA for the specific purpose of recognizing member schools that achieve athletic excellence during the school year.  This award also serves as a symbol of recognition to the individuals who have given unselfishly of their time to serve as Chairperson of the Alabama Independent School Association Athletic Committee. The criteria for winning the AISA Chairman’s Award includes achievement in all areas of the school’s athletic programs: state champions in all sports, All-Star Selection, scholarship, participation in different sports, finishing in the top four in State Play-offs, sportsmanship, student-athlete award, and no eligibility problems.

The AISA Blue Ribbon Award program is sponsored by the AISA to recognize member schools with outstanding educational programs.  In order to be considered for the AISA Blue Ribbon Award, a school must complete a rigorous application process and exemplify excellence in scholastic achievement, professional learning, student involvement and community interaction.  These schools have demonstrated a high level of excellence in their academic and student programs and are very worthy recipients of the AISA Blue Ribbon Award.

The AISA has been steadfast in its efforts since 1970 to maintain an organization of independently operated non-public schools that are rich in diversity, committed to academic and athletic excellence, and deeply concerned about the growth and development of children and youth. Two of the association’s goals is to provide quality educational services and programs that ultimately serve to enrich the educational experiences of the students within its member schools; and provide programs of athletic opportunities for those parents choosing an alternative to public education.

Headmaster Glynn Lott and Board President, Charlie Byrom proudly display the AISA Class AA Chairman’s Award.

July Jammin’ at Macon East!

Macon East Academy Pre-Kindergarten teachers, Jessica Taylor and Caitlin Bruce planned out a week of fun activities and learning tools for a week long summer camp for K3 – 1st graders! Each day was assigned a theme and the students were taught a lesson, made crafts and experienced lots of hands-on activities. Kids had fun being able to take a break from “summer life” and get back into school and reunite with their friends and teachers.

Lady Knights Hosts Volleyball Camp

The Lady Knights volleyball team enjoyed hosting a camp this summer for all of the incredibly talented volleyball girls in grades 2-6.  Two-time state champion coaches, Codi Moon and Kambria Darby, welcomed 27 girls attending the three-day camp.  The Lady Knights had a blast teaching the basics of the game and getting to know the up and coming volleyball stars.

Coach Codi Moon said, “It was fun interacting with the elementary girls.  I think their favorite part of the camp was “beach volleyball”.  I know the older girls really look forward to getting back on the court and encouraging the younger girls to love the sport as much as they do!”

The Junior Varsity and Varsity teams are looking forward to another great season, and both groups hope to bring home another state championship.
