Fun Run 2024 – What a Blast!
Macon East Academy’s PTO hosted our annual Fun Run on February 2nd. The students and teachers look forward to this fun event. Our students and teachers love the interaction from the Booster Fun Run Crew. The Booster Crew visited with the students everyday of the week leading up to the Fun Run for fun challenges and learning important character values. Because of their success in reaching their goals, the students got to mummify a Booster Crew member, silly string a Booster Crew member, and the 4th through 6th grades got to have a color run! The teachers also did incentives with their classes including movie days and ice cream days. Because of the great success of this fundraiser, we will be able to purchase many updates needed for the school. Thank you to all our Sponsors, Parents, Grandparents, and many volunteers that helped this be a big success!

Wounded Warrior Project
Macon East Academy’s Lower School collected donations for the Wounded Warrior Project with a penny war competition between grades. Students brought in money to help their grade win the competition. Pennies and paper money earned positive points for their grade, while silver coins could be used to subtract points from other grades. After careful calculation and much anticipation, Fifth Grade had the highest number of points, winning the penny war! The Lower School raised a total of $1313.71 to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Homecoming 2023
Macon East’s Homecoming is an exciting time for students and their families, filled with a week-long celebration of fun and festivities. One of the highlights of the week was a thrilling men’s volleyball tournament, where high school students showcased their skills and competed against each other.
In addition to the sports event, homeroom classes also got into the spirit by participating in a door decoration contest. This allowed students to showcase their creativity and team spirit as they transformed their classroom doors into vibrant and eye-catching displays.
Dress up days added an extra element of excitement to the Homecoming week. Students had the opportunity to show off their individuality and express themselves through various themed dress-up days such as class color day, dynamic duos, dream job, letter day, and Freedom Friday. The cheerleaders entertained and pumped everyone up with their annual black light pep rally Thursday night. Finally on Friday, the lower school and upper school enjoyed tailgating with wonderful food and fellowship. The Homecoming Parade on Friday afternoon was a highly anticipated event for everyone involved. Each lower school class had the opportunity to showcase their creativity by creating a unique banner to carry down the parade route. The wee princess, little damsel, and pee wee cheerleaders along with the flag and pee wee football teams rode on floats and trailers throwing goodies to the crowd. The Homecoming Court then made their way down the route to wave at their peers and throw some goodies. The football teams also greeted the crowd with candy and enjoyed the cheers from the students.
The 2023 Macon East Academy Homecoming Court included: Bella Ann Spires (7th grade), Macie Duncan (8th grade), Gracie Strickland (9th grade), Payton Underwood and Layla Stephens (10th grade), Alexis Davis, Mary Taylor May, and Mattie Pugh (11th grade), Sara Cochran, Pressley Graham, Lathan Johnson and Jaiden McDowell (12th grade). Macon East’s homecoming court was presented during the halftime ceremonies on the field and Miss Pressley Graham was crowned as this year’s queen.
Macon East celebrated a win as the Knights defeated Abbeville Christian Academy 53-0.
Macon East’s Homecoming provided a platform for students to come together as a community, engage in friendly competition, unleash their creativity, and create lasting memories with friends and family.
Back to School Bash 2023
Macon East Academy held its fifth annual Back to School Bash and Silent Auction on August 20, 2023. This was a fun event for the school and community hosted by the MEA PTO. Kids enjoyed carnival games and prizes, inflatables, face painting, balloon animals, petting zoo, and the dunk tank. This year several trucks were set up for our touch a truck event along with a food truck and Bama Chill snow cones. Our high school kids were a great help in running the games and we appreciate all our great volunteers! The day was topped off with a silent auction, featuring a wide variety of items up for the bidding. The Bash was a wonderful success thanks to a great turnout, generous local sponsors, and many hardworking volunteers. The PTO is already planning for even more fun for next year!
Macon East Hosts Environmental Fair
Our lower school, preschool, and MDO students enjoyed a fun filled day of learning at our Environmental Fair last week. Dixie Electric brought several of their reptiles to see up close while an area vet tech and her trusty sidekick dog, Chester, taught how to care for your pets. Alabama PALS spoke about how to keep our community litter free while the American Red Cross taught our students the importance of having a home plan for emergencies. Bonnie Plant Farm and our Green Team volunteers spoke about different plant life and our students got to plant their own succulent to take home. One of our very own teachers, Tim Davenport, is part of the Muskogee Creek Indians east of the Mississippi and he brought many artifacts to share with the classes. Woodie Hodges enjoyed showing how he trains dogs and had 2 very well-behaved dogs do some tricks for our students. We were glad to add the Claybird Bee Education Association to speak about how important bees are to us and for Haigler’s Forestry and Wildlife Management to teach about animal habitats and things made from different parts of our forest. They enjoyed making the different edible layers of soil as a treat with the National Resource Conservation Service and going on a hunt for natural resources outside. It was a beautiful day to finish our Environmental Fair with a visit from the ice cream truck for their Fun Run reward incentive from our PTO.

Science Fair
Each year Macon East fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students participate in the Science Fair. With entries in either the biological or physical category, each student is required to present a project complete with display board, research paper and experiment results. The fair is judged by a panel of experts, and the top projects advance to the AISA District and State Science Fairs. This year 5 MEA students were honored at District and advanced to the State fair – Sophie Clark, Jon David Spires, Reese Hasson, Ella Grace Hagans, and Wyatt Streetman. 5th grader, Ella Grace Hagens, won 2nd place for her project at the State fair, “Are Dogs Really Color Blind”, in the elementary physical science division.
