Coach Davenport Shares Family History

Coach Tim Davenport enjoyed sharing some of his family’s Native American traditions to the Macon East lower school.  He brought a talking stick, medicine pouches, clothing, jewelry, a turban that the chief would wear, and dream catchers to show them. The students really enjoyed the hands-on learning and personal stories about his family.

Sleeping Under the Sea!

Forget Sleeping Under the Stars…our 5th and 6th graders experienced Sleeping Under the Sea!  As you can see from the pictures, our students had a wonderful time at the Georgia Aquarium.  They were able to not only able to have the best sleeping spot, but they were also entertained by some amazing aquatic animals, a bedtime snack, and fun-filled guided tours.  This was a definitely a slumber party to remember!

Celebrating Read Across America

Macon East Academy Kindergarten students enjoyed reading books written by Dr. Seuss including Bartholomew and the Oobleck.  After reading the story, students made their own Oobleck.  It was lots of green, sticky fun! They also enjoyed having a “Dr. Seuss” snack which included green eggs and ham, Cat in the Hat cheese sticks, and colored goldfish.

Fun Run 2022!

Macon East Academy’s PTO hosted our annual Fun Run in February surrounded by much excitement from our students. Our students and teachers love the interaction from the Booster Fun Run Crew that visits with them daily for fun challenges and learning important characteristic values. Money raised will be used for technology updates. Grades Preschool through 6th grade rocked their Glow Run at the end of the event. Because of their success in reaching their goals, the students got to pie a Booster Crew member, slime a teacher, an ice cream truck visit, have a color celebration (4th-6th grades), plus many other fun incentives their teachers did with them. Our 2nd grade class was the top pledging class and their teacher, Ms. Loomis, received $100 to use for her classroom. Thank you to all our Sponsors, Parents, Grandparents, and many volunteers that helped this be a big success.

Macon East Academy Features 6th Grade and Kindergarten Reading Buddies!

Mrs. Keeble’s 6th grade class enjoys participating in a reading program with the Kindergarten class. The reading buddies program helps model good reading and students improve their skills. The older students gain the opportunity to develop fluency as well as a sense of pride in their accomplishments. In addition, they often come to see the value and love of reading as well as gaining self-esteem. Kindergarteners build a relationship with the older students and improve their reading skills as well.

𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲s 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟬𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹

Pre-K and K5 students celebrated the 100th day of school recently. K5 enjoyed making 100’s Day necklaces, having a candy hunt for 100 pieces of candy in the library, playing “Race to 100” partner games in the classroom, and having a special 100’s Day snack. All students had a great time celebrating being 100 days smarter!  We love our little Knights, they are so precious! We love our teachers too – way to go Ms. Lawrence, Ms. Taylor, Ms. Jordan, Ms. Bruce and Ms. Mills!

1st Graders Read to Therapy Dog, Larry

First grade teacher, 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗦𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗵 has partnered with Mrs. Mary Hughes, from the Montgomery Humane Society, and her therapy dog, Larry. Together they have been teaching the students about pet responsibilities, dog safety, and are practicing their reading skills as well. Students get to meet and read each week with Larry one-on-one. As they are reading their library books to Larry, he helps calm any anxiety that they may be feeling with reading because he is such a good listener. Mrs. Smith says “This is a great opportunity that helps our first graders become stronger readers as they build up their confidence! We look forward to our time with Mrs. Mary and Larry every week!”
