Ethan Jones Succeeds at Alabama Boys State

𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 represented Macon East Academy at the 86th annual American Legion Alabama Boys State. Held at Troy University, Alabama Boys State is one of the highest honors granted to Alabama students. Students from across the state are chosen based on their leadership, hard work, strong morals, and motivation in school and community activities. This program provides opportunities for student delegates to build new friendships, participate in a mock government, and hear from and meet a diverse array of Alabama leaders, including congressmen, elected officials, and business leaders.

Ethan was originally elected to the House of Representatives and was elected as Clerk to the House of Representatives. He was then appointed by the Governor to be his Chief of Staff. Ethan was elected to be the Activities Director for his city as well. Additionally, Ethan received a medal/award for the most outstanding delegate of the elected and appointed state officials.

The American Legion Boys State provides delegates with an understanding and working knowledge of our democratic society. Selection as a delegate for Alabama Boys State is an honor, and the experiences Ethan had through this prestigious program will shape him as a leader at school and in his future endeavors.

MEA Basketball Star – Jacob Wilson

Macon East Academy Senior 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗯 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗻 has made his mark!  He was recently selected to the 2022-23 Montgomery Advertiser All-Metro boys basketball team – Small School First Team. He earned first-team AISA All-State honors and is the Alabama Sportswriter Association AISA Player of the Year. He also made the All-Region Tournament Team, AISA All-Star and All-Tournament Team for the State Finals. Wilson averaged 12.3 points per game, 4.6 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game while shooting over 50% from the field.

“Jacob, this season, has been one of the best leaders and players to ever play in the Macon Academy East program. His work ethic and passion for the game was remarkable, and how he led by example everyday was the catalyst for us being 25-7 and State Runner Ups this season. Jacob told me before the season started, he wanted to leave a legacy here at Macon and make an impact not only on the court but also in the school. With his dazzling ball handling skills, to his amazing stop and pop jump shot I believe he did just that. I’m so blessed to have coached him this season, such a great young man of character and a true servant leader, Jacob will do some amazing things to better our society.” 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗻 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀

Macon East Seniors honored at 22nd Biennial Beautillion Militaire Gala and Dinner

Deonte Powell, Jacob Wilson and Gabe Spencer were recently honored at the 22nd Biennial Beautillion Militaire Gala and Dinner fundraiser on March 4, 2023 at the Maxwell Air Force Base. The Beautillion Militaire is a time-honored tradition of the Montgomery Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.  The event provides high school junior and senior young men in the community with an opportunity to develop their cultural, social, and academic potential through workshops, community service, and social activities.  The activities culminate in an elegant night of dancing and military-style drills.

Founded in 1938, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2-19, dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic duty.

We are super proud of these young men as they exemplify leadership and are great mentors to their peers at Macon East.
