Congratulations to the high school students inducted into Macon East Academy’s chapter of the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society: Jameson Byrom, Kaiden Byrom, Anna Watson, Tanner Surles, Barrett Spaeth, Dalton Nickles, Ethan Jones and Will Dekle.  Mu Alpha Theta recognizes excellence in mathematics, and the MEA chapter is sponsored by Mrs. Melissa Baker.

PBCI Tribal Livestock Scholarship Winner – Matthew Pugh

The Poarch Band of Creek Indians has a proud history of supporting youth in livestock. Each year during SLE Livestock Week, young people from each of Alabama’s 67 counties are awarded scholarships from the Tribe to aid in future participation of youth livestock events or further education.

Alabama Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship Recipient – McKinnon Hammonds

The Alabama Cattlemen’s Association recently awarded more than $80,000 to deserving young people from across the state at the 2022 Alabama Cattlemen’s Foundation Scholarship Banquet. McKinnon Hammonds, pictured with his Grandfather – a Lowndes county cattlemen, was awarded one of the “Tagged for Greatness” scholarships. We are very thankful for everything that ACA does for the cattle industry, our communities and students. Congrats McKinnon!!

10th Grade English Project

The 10th grade students read Animal Farm by George Orwell, over the course of the third nine weeks. They learned about how power and control can corrupt leadership. They made their own propaganda posters to go along with any part of the novel.

Sleeping Under the Sea!

Forget Sleeping Under the Stars…our 5th and 6th graders experienced Sleeping Under the Sea!  As you can see from the pictures, our students had a wonderful time at the Georgia Aquarium.  They were able to not only able to have the best sleeping spot, but they were also entertained by some amazing aquatic animals, a bedtime snack, and fun-filled guided tours.  This was a definitely a slumber party to remember!

NJHS Inducts 8 New Members

The Macon East chapter of the National Junior Honor Society recently held its annual induction ceremony. The National Junior Honor Society is a worldwide organization that consists of middle school & junior high students from around the country. Selection of members is based on five criteria: citizenship, service, leadership, scholarship and character. Each member is expected to maintain a high academic standard while being active in their community through volunteer service projects. The goal of NJHS is to recognize academic achievement and to develop the characteristics of leadership and service. Serving as officers for the National Junior Honor Society are Julia Mathis (President), Addison Little (Vice President), Chase Lashlee (Secretary), Katie Kitchens (Treasurer) and Mary Taylor May (Chaplain).

Congratulations to this year’s inductees: Alexis Davis, Sarah Davis, Colton Lunn, Caden Mobley, Parker Ruskin, Kelsey Smith, Gavin Spencer, and Madison Vocino.
