Laurel Hill Farm Author and Nugget Visit Macon East Students

Macon East students were treated to a visit from children’s book author, Blaire Carter Graham. Blaire shared her book called Nugget’s Prayer with the students and even brought Nugget along for lots of love. Blaire lives on Laurel Hill Farm in Shorter, Alabama and has lots of animals where she draws her inspiration for her books. Blaire aims to inspire young and old readers to be strong and confident about who they are and where they are from. She also wants readers to know the importance of friends and family. One bible verse she holds close to her heart is Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Macon East Art Show Winners!

We are so proud of these students and their commitment to the visual arts! Macon East Academy has a wonderful visual arts program. Four Macon East Academy Seniors Recognized for AISA Awards

Macon East Academy celebrated four of our amazing seniors who were recently recognized by the Alabama Independent School Association. Senior, Will Desmarais was named to the AISA 2020-2021 All-State Academic team. Seniors, Tanner Moore, Aidan Steyer and Hannah Parker were chosen as 2020 – 2021 Student-Athlete Winners. We are so proud to have them represent our school! We would also like to congratulate the parents and the teachers of these students who have invested so much time and effort to prepare them and help them earn this recognition.

ASWA All-State Basketball Teams

Macon East well represented on the 2020-2021 Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State Basketball Teams.

The Alabama Sports Writers Association prep basketball committee chose three Macon East Academy student-athletes for the 2020-2021 squads. Chase Dumas was selected for the AISA Second Team All-State and Tyler Daniels was awarded Honorable Mention. Maddie Ross was awarded Honorable Mention on the AISA All-State girls team. Coach Glynn Lott was selected Coach of the Year for the AISA All-State boys team. We are extremely proud of our students and Coach Lott’s accomplishments.

Macon East Academy Holds Virtual National Junior Honor Society Induction

The Macon East Academy chapter of the National Junior Honor Society recently held its annual induction ceremony. The National Junior Honor Society is a worldwide organization that consists of middle school & junior high students from around the country. The selection of members is based on five criteria: citizenship, service, leadership, scholarship, and character. Each member is expected to maintain a high academic standard while being active in their community through volunteer service projects. The goal of NJHS is to recognize academic achievement and to develop the characteristics of leadership and service.

Under the advisement of Ms. Erica Hammonds, the 2020-2021 NJHS is led by Kaiden Byrom (President), Anna Watson (Vice President), Kacy Rutland (Secretary) and Barrett Spaeth (Chaplain).

Congratulations to the following students on their outstanding accomplishments in academics and leadership. This year’s inductees: Peyton Baggott, Jacob Caddell, Elliot Fitch, Mattie Pugh, Cole Streetman, Jackson Todd and Braiden Watkins.

AISA ALL-STARS

Congratulations to Emily Nickles, Georgia Blaze, and Kathryn Barker (Tournament MVP) for being selected to the AISA All-Star girls team. The class 2A state champion Knights had two representatives on the East All-Star team: Stone Yarnell and Jeremiah Carnegie. The West squad defeated the East in both games with scores of 64-56 for the girls and 89-82 for the boys.

FUN RUN EXCITEMENT

Macon East Academy’s Lower School and Pre-school students recently had a blast participating in the annual Fun Run. During this fundraiser, families gather donations for laps run by their students on the day of the Run. Students took part in character-building lessons each day from the Booster team, learning about teamwork, courage, and determination. The two-week event was a great success, earning the kids many exciting rewards along the way for reaching their goals. Some of their favorite rewards were a visit to the ice cream truck and a Color Run for the older kids. A portion of the funds raised went towards the new school intercom system which has just been installed for all buildings, replacing the previous, 35-year-old system. These students are proud to see the results of their efforts being used at school daily.

AISA 2A BOYS BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPS!

The varsity boys basketball team won its third state basketball championship in the last five years. Macon East Academy finished the season with a 14-7 record, with a remarkable run through the AA playoffs. The boys rallied together amidst COVID-19 and a coaching change midway through the season to be AISA 2A State Champions! The Knights defeated Escambia 62-55 at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl. Jeremiah Carnegie led Macon East with 16 points, Chase Dumas added 15 points, followed by Maurice Poole with 13 and Tyler Daniels with 12. Making the all-tournament team were Maurice Poole, Jeremiah Carnegie, and Chase Dumas.

The Knights will lose 6 valuable seniors including Carlos Carter, Eric Lawson, Aidan Steyer, Jeremiah Carnegie, Stone Yarnell, and Chase Dumas. Congratulations to Coach Lott and the varsity boys on reaching your goals and being state champs!

22ND ANNUAL MEA DEER HUNT

The weekend of January 15th-17th, Macon East Academy held our 22nd annual deer hunt. We hosted 66 hunters from 14 states. This event is one of Macon East’s largest fundraising events raising over $50,000 annually all while providing the opportunity to make new acquaintances and visit with old friends while they spend time afield. The endless list of volunteers work tirelessly to make this event a success each year. We cannot show enough appreciation to all of the Macon East family that helped with this event. We have already started planning the 2022 event and would love to have everyone involved to make next year’s deer hunt even better.

MEA CHEERLEADERS PARTICIPATE IN VIRTUAL READING PEP RALLY

Macon East Academy varsity cheerleaders were able to celebrate with Short the Squirrel on his 1st birthday. SHORT the Squirrel is a non-profit founded in 2020 and was created after a Mobile County Assistant District Attorney, saw young children spending large unoccupied blocks of time in the courtroom. Short the Squirrel is a mechanism to fill the gap with “edutainment”. The Macon East Academy cheerleaders participated in the 30-minute celebration by participating in a pep rally for reading to the targeted audience of first graders. The girls were excited to bring the program to life and help encourage the love of reading.
