MEA Sophomore Attends Statewide Youth Leadership Conference

Macon East Academy sophomore Eli Churchwell represented the school at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s annual Youth Leadership Conference, held November 10–11 at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana.

Eli joined nearly 90 ninth- and tenth-grade students from across the state for two days of leadership training, teamwork activities, and personal development sessions designed to strengthen communication and character.

As part of the conference’s service initiative, participants worked together to pack 11,000 hygiene kits for families visiting Children’s of Alabama—an effort reflecting the conference’s focus on service and community impact.

Macon East Academy is proud of Eli’s commitment to leadership and service.

Macon East Academy Sweeps Its Way to the Class A State Volleyball Title

Macon East Academy is back on top of the volleyball world, sweeping South Choctaw to claim the Class A State Championship—the program’s eighth title in school history and its first since 2018. The Knights completed a dominant run through the AISA tournament, winning 25–19, 25–22, 25–15 at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl to cap a remarkable 21‑game winning streak and a 33–3 season.

The victory marks a return to championship form for a program that once captured seven titles in eight years (2011–2018). This year’s success was fueled by a seasoned senior class—Mollie Ross, Jamya Powell, and Livi Robinson—who have been key contributors since eighth grade.

“We had no doubt,” senior Mollie Ross said. “From day one, we connected and trusted each other. That bond is what led us here.”

Head coach Berry praised her seniors for their leadership and resilience. Powell, she noted, is “an absolute powerhouse,” Ross brings unmatched competitiveness and grit, and Robinson is “the biggest leader on the sideline,” a player who would start on almost any other team.

The Knights rallied around their season motto, “BTT — Build The Temple,” a reminder to put God first, the team second, and personal goals third. With a deep roster and a shared commitment to their roles, Macon East found the formula to finish what previous teams had come so close to achieving.

Three Knights—Gavin Spencer, Mollie Ross, and Jamya Powell—were named to the All‑Tournament Team, highlighting the strength and balance of this championship squad.

With a title reclaimed and a legacy renewed, Macon East volleyball has once again proven what it means to compete with heart, unity, and purpose.

Macon East Academy Celebrates a Spirited Homecoming Week

Macon East Academy wrapped up a lively Homecoming week on Friday, September 26 with tailgates, a festive Knight Parade, and a big win over Snook. The week was packed with fun and friendly competition, as students showed off their school spirit through themed dress-up days and a boys volleyball game. Both upper and lower school students enjoyed tailgating, sharing good food and fellowship. The Homecoming Parade brought the whole school together, with lower school classes marching with handmade signs and younger students—princesses, cheerleaders, and football players—riding floats and tossing goodie bags to the crowd.

Homecoming Court attendants selected by their classmates were Harper Underwood (7th grade), Emma Bushong (8th grade), Sophie Clark (9th grade), Bentley Graham and Campbell Loughridge (10th grade), Megan Hardy, Addie Longcrier, and Gracie Strickland (11th grade), Jamya Powell, Livi Robinson, Mollie Ross, and Payton Underwood (12th grade). At halftime of the football game, Miss Livi Robinson was crowned as the 2025 Homecoming Queen. The Student Government Association officers and members did outstanding job planning and organizing all this year’s Homecoming week activities.

Macon East Academy Goes Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness

Macon East Academy recently raised money for families affected by childhood cancer through a schoolwide penny wars competition. Students from K3 through 12th grade joined together in the effort, collecting change to make a difference. The campaign culminated at a spirited pep rally where the entire school dressed in gold to honor childhood cancer awareness. A special moment was captured as students and faculty gathered for a group photo with kindergartener Emma Allshouse, celebrating her victory over cancer.

Macon East JV Cheer Shines at Summer Camp

Congratulations to our Macon East JV Cheer Team for an outstanding week at cheer camp! The team’s energy, determination, and school spirit led to a series of remarkable achievements and statewide recognition.

Three cheerleaders—Bella Ann Spires, Gillie Phillips, and Ella Loughridge—were named All-American Honorees, celebrating their exceptional talent and performance. Bella Ann Spires was also selected as a “Pin It Forward” recipient, an honor recognizing leadership, positivity, and kindness.

Macon East Senior Joins Dixie Electric Youth Tour in D.C.

Macon East senior Sam Wallace recently took part in the Dixie Electric Cooperative Youth Tour and had an unforgettable experience in Washington, D.C. Alongside other students, Sam toured the U.S. Capitol, visited historic monuments, and even attended a Washington Nationals baseball game.

A highlight of the trip was Youth Day, where students from across the country gathered to learn about the importance of civic engagement and leadership. Sam especially enjoyed meeting with members of Congress and gaining insight into how the government works.

Homecoming 2024 – In My Macon Era

Macon East celebrated Homecoming the week of September 30 – October 5. This year’s Homecoming week was a time of fun and competition all centered around the theme, “In My Macon Era.” Events included themed dress up days of In my Vacation Era (dream vacation), Sweet Home Alabama Era (redneck vs country club, Beginning / End of an Era (babies vs senior citizens), In My Celebrity Era and In My Macon Era (homecoming shirts and Macon gear). The entire school really enjoyed dressing up and showing their school spirit. Other events during the week included a homecoming crashers, and a fun boys volleyball game. The cheerleaders entertained everyone with a fantastic blacklight pep rally Thursday night. The annual upper school tailgate was a time of good food and lots of fun and fellowship. The lower school students enjoyed tailgating as well. As the school day ended, everyone gathered in the parking lot for the Homecoming Parade. Each lower school class carried a sign down the parade route. The wee princess, little damsel, and pee wee cheerleaders along with the pee wee football team rode on floats and trailers throwing goodie bags to the crowd. Homecoming attendants threw goodies to the crowd as well from their decorated vehicles. Homecoming Court attendants selected by their classmates were Ashley Davis (7th grade), Kylie Taylor (8th grade), Bentley Graham (9th grade), Bella Chambers and Gracie Strickland (10th grade), Bree Grisco, Hagen Owens, and Payton Underwood (11th grade), Alexis Davis, Mary Taylor May, Mattie Pugh, and Shamaiah Thomas (12th grade). At halftime of the football game, Miss Shamaiah Thomas was crowned as the 2024 Homecoming Queen. The Student Government Association officers and members did an outstanding job planning and organizing all of this year’s Homecoming week activities.

The Knights celebrated homecoming with a dominant 60-0 shutout against North River Christian, marking their third shutout of the season. Thad McKinney led the way with 82 rushing yards, including a 57-yard touchdown, and a 65-yard kickoff return. Sam Wallace threw for 89 yards with two touchdown passes and added a 30-yard touchdown run and a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown. Carter Hopson contributed with a 45-yard touchdown run and a 51-yard touchdown reception. Micah Andrews caught two touchdown passes. On defense, Hopson had nine tackles, McKinney recorded four tackles and a sack, Mathew Pugh had five tackles and a fumble recovery, and Wallace intercepted a pass.

MEA Celebrates Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Macon East Academy celebrated Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September by honoring a Mother’s Day Out student. To raise awareness, the MEA PTO organized several initiatives, including selling bracelets and stickers, as well as hosting a Warrior Wednesday dress-down day where students wore spirit wear for a donation. On the last Wednesday of the month, the entire school, from K3 to 12th grade, participated by wearing yellow or gold—colors that symbolize childhood cancer.

The funds raised will be divided between the Allshouse family and donated to the social workers on the childhood cancer floor at Children’s Hospital, who provide essential gift cards for food and gas to families in need during treatment. Macon East Academy demonstrated remarkable support for this important cause, especially for our brave little knight, Emma Allshouse, who is courageously fighting her battle against cancer. We stand united in prayer and support for her.

Overall, donations exceeded $1,000, showcasing the community’s generosity and commitment to making a difference.

Tiffany Marshall excels at Bullock County Distinguished Young Woman Event

Macon East Academy Senior Tiffany Marshall exceled at the Distinguished Young Women of Bullock County event. Tiffany not only won the “Be Your Best Self” essay award and the scholastics award, but she also earned first runner-up. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and thrilled that she came home with several thousand dollars in scholarship money.

Lady Knights Receive Rings

The 2024 Macon East Academy Varsity Softball team ended the year as the AISA AAA State Champions. A ring ceremony was held recently for the Lady Knights at the annual Night with the Knights kick-off event to the season. Coach Glynn Lott’s softball team secured their 11th state championship at the AISA AAA state tournament, held at the Lagoon Park Softball Complex. Their victory over Clarke Prep School not only added another championship trophy to their collection but also highlighted the exceptional talent within the team.
